About this report
This project was designed to test a number of the operating paradigms of farmers and irrigation companies operating within the Murrumbidgee System. Within the discussion workshop the operating paradigms of the water users and options for change were discussed and tested. Included in the discussion were issues such as the exploration of the possibilities/limitations to on farm or near farm storages that could assist in taking the peak off the summer demand curve. Additionally we examined the exogenous issues affecting on-farm water management and usage as related to water delivery and summer demand management imperatives. Such issues included: differential pricing models, options for order debiting to drive on-farm storage decisions, valuation of environmental services provided by flow-through water and current metering practices.
The scope of this project was to run a workshop with participants from State Water, DPNR, the Irrigation Companies and representative Farmers. The nature of the workshop was to get the individuals to think outside their normal operating paradigms with a view to blue skying options that would improve the ability to better manage demand overall but with a particular focus on summer demand.
