About this report
This report was undertaken with a view to supporting a much larger study of wateruse efficiency, the Summer Flow Management Project. As a consequence, it concentrates primarily on factors and processes which relate the Murrumbidgee ecosystem (and its health) to flow management as currently practised. Within the limits set by the Cap on diversion, it may still be possible to enhance reliability of supply and/or achieve greater environmental benefits by introducing further efficiencies in the way water is delivered and applied either for productive purposes or in support of the river ecosystem. This report concentrates solely on the second of these issues, recognising that productive uses will be examined elsewhere. Its intent is to explore ecological responses to flow management and to seek to identify aspects of the Murrumbidgee ecosystem that are under particular threat from current practices and/or might respond to achievable changes to the way in which water is delivered.
