About this report
In general terms, the aims are these:
- to provide a mechanism under the environmental planning laws to facilitate/reinforce/enable implementation of the objects and principles of the Water Management Act 2004;
- specifically, to facilitate measures to achieve water savings (and in particular minimise waste of water whether by evaporation, seepage or otherwise);
- to assist in dealing with other environmental problems involved with the misuse of water, eg. salination.
Central concept
- Those who undertake water management works or farm improvement works (or other water use improvement works) which lead to significant water savings are to be rewarded;
- those who propose to undertake new agricultural activities (or other water use intensive activities) would have to incorporate measures to minimise waste and/or acquire “credits” from those who create savings (and specifically it is envisaged that each development application will have to be accompanied by a water use/savings plan detailing likely water use and how savings will be maximised and wastage minimised).
